Internships at FoodFacts

Foodfacts.com is pleased to announce two exciting internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the NJ area.  We have confirmed with Rutgers University that the student can use either of these opportunities to earn school credits (however the student must submit a request independently.)

Foodfacts.com Nutritionist Internship Program

Foodfacts.com is an innovative website dedicated to informing consumers about the ingredients and nutrition in their every day food products.   Our database has approximately 100,000 products and is continually growing in size and content.  The intern in this position will specifically focus on researching each ingredient in our database and updating the descriptions, allergens and other information as needed.  He/She will learn how to apply nutrition or science research skills and writing abilities in a team-oriented office setting.

Skills to be developed:

  • Develop experience meeting goals while working in an office setting.
  • Applying nutrition research skills in various applications.
  • Enhance nutrition writing skills by translating nutritional data and research into accessible text and reading material for the general public.

Hours:

  • January  14th through April 12th.  Week off for Rutger’s Spring Break (March 16-24).
  • Fifteen hours a week for twelve weeks.  Schedule is flexible; some writing and research may be done remotely.

Compensation:  Credit-bearing, unpaid.  Interns may be offered paid full-time or part-time employment after the internship period ends.

Tasks:

  • Find ingredients that are missing definitions; create and insert definitions.  Determine if that ingredient contains an allergen or is should be considered controversial.
  • Respond to member and employee questions regarding specific ingredients.
  • Keep abreast of current nutrition research and news stories – prepare short summaries or blog posts.
  • Special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Nutrition/Science research and writing experience.
  • Strong computer skills.

Foodfacts.com Social Media Internship Program

Foodfacts.com is an innovative website dedicated to informing consumers about the ingredients and nutrition in their every day food products.   Our database has approximately 100,000 products and is continually growing in size and content.  The intern in this position will specifically focus on interacting with our members via social media, keeping abreast of food and nutrition news and research, and using sites such as twitter and reddit to increase our sites membership and pageviews.  He/She will learn how to apply social media skills and writing abilities in a team-oriented office setting, and how to be the “voice” of a company online.

Skills to be developed:

  • Develop experience meeting goals while working in an office setting.
  • Apply existing writing skills to a specific company’s style and content guidelines.
  • Enhance marketing and social media experience.

Hours:

  • January  14th through April 12th.  Week off for Rutger’s Spring Break (March 16-24).
  • Fifteen hours a week for twelve weeks.  Schedule is flexible; some writing and research may be done remotely.
