Simone disagrees with the score for McDonald's Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken (10.9 oz.).
Simone feels that the score should be B+ (77-84).
The reason is: There is more sodium in a serving of Campbell's chicken noodle soup! Sodium is not bad for you as long as you aren't overloading everyday. There's great protein in here. Where's the added sugar? And there says 0 trans facts in the nutrition facts section. I think this is a lowfat, healthy, yummy meal. Especially compared to the other items.

Thank you for contacting foodfacts.com regarding McDonald’s Caeser Salad with Grilled Chicken.

Regarding the sodium content: our nutrition department is concerned with the overall high sodium intake affecting our country, and has developed our calculations accordingly. For more information on Sodium and other nutritional factors, please see www.foodfacts.com/the-facts/nutrients .

Regarding added sugar: the added sugar is in the form of Dextrose, also known as corn sugar. It’s in the first ten ingredients listed. We note added sugars, which leads to increased calorie consumption and the expectation for sweeter foods, but the presence of added sugars does not affect the score (calories do, however).

Regarding the Trans Fat: the FDA guidelines are that if a serving contains less than 0.5 grams of trans fat, the manufacturer can list it as 0 grams of trans fat. This does not mean that a product is free from trans fats, and in some cases, manufacturers deliberately use smaller serving sizes than what people actually consume in order to hide trans fats. Luckily, Foodfacts.com is here to point them out to you: whenever there is hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated oils, trans fats exist, so even though this product claims no trans fat on the nutrition label, it’s still there in the hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils.

We agree that there is protein in this salad, and that compared with McDonald’s other offerings it may appear healthier, but this is not a healthy salad. It is very high in sodium and loaded with controversial ingredients, such as MSG, Caramel Color, Polysorbate 80, artificial flavors and hydrogenated oils.

Our FoodFacts Health Score is calculated using a unique, patent-pending algorithm that combines traditional measures of nutrition facts along with quality of ingredients, while excluding any personal bias or prejudice; the product’s taste is not a consideration, and we don’t score comparatively to other products. The score is not meant to be a final judgment on a product, but a guideline to help consumers navigate the often confusing world of ingredient lists and nutritional labels.

As always, thanks for contacting us!
