Lactitol

Lactitol has a sweetness profile and physical properties similar to those of sucrose. It can successfully replace sucrose in many applications, offering a mild sweetness with no after-taste. With a relative sweetness value of 0.4 times that of sucrose, lactitol is ideal where bulking with a lower sweetness is required. For increased sweetness, lactitol can also be blended with more intense sweeteners Lactitol is one of the reduced calorie sweeteners listed in the European Union (EU) Sweetener Directive, and is approved in many other countries including the USA, Canada and Japan. Foods containing lactitol can offer a number of health benefits, including a reduction in calories, tooth friendliness and suitability for diabetics.
