Broccoli means ‘little sprouts’ in Italian. It’s part of the Brassica family of vegetables which also includes cauliflower, cabbages, Brussels sprouts, turnips and many of the Asian greens. The stalks, buds and most of the leaves of broccoli are edible. Broccoli is very good for you. It’s got lots of vitamin C and vitamin K and is a very good source of calcium, iron and potassium. Broccoli contains compounds which research strongly indicates inhibit the development of some cancers.
