We received an inquiry regarding the use of flouride in baby products and filtered nursery water. Here is how our nutrition department responds:
Flouride is not recommended for infants under 6 months, or ones who haven't started teething yet as it could lead to dental flourosis (which can cause fine white lines or chaulky teeth). There is an upper level limit set for 0.7 mg/day, but the recommendation is 0.
Once they start teething, the American academy of pediatrics recommends infants (over 7 months or who have teeth) be offered fluoridated water several times a day if the infant is breast fed, drink cows milk or drink formula preparer with water that has less than 0.3 mg fluoride.
