    Tax On Sugary Beverages Causes Philadelphians To Drink More Water

    A new study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine suggests that putting a tax on sugary beverages may actually be detering consumers from buying soda and instead encourage them to opt for water. Researchers at Drexel University conducted a survey to see how the 1.5-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages affected Philadelphians before and after the change and the results were very promising and positive! They found that with the beverage tax, Philadelphians were about 40% less likely to drink soda on a daily basis compared to three other cities that were also surveyed and had no beverage tax.     Having A Higher Income Doesn't Necessarily Mean You Have Better Knowledge About Food

    A recent Food Literacy and Engagement Poll from Michigan State University's Food@MSU initiative asked questions pertaining to knowledge of food terms, food safety and purchasing behavior. The results showed that 49% of Americans in households earning at least $50,000 annually believe they know more about global food systems than the average person. In comparison, 28% of Americans in households earning less per year also believe they know more.
